Project Storage Tip!

It’s that time of year again….crazy card making season! The American trio of holidays – Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas – is upon us. Halloween is only just starting to gain traction in Australia and Thanksgiving is a paritcularly American holiday, but I have lots of family and friends in the USA so I make cards for all three seasons. That means at this time of year my craft studio is chaos. So many cards to make, so many supplies all over the place. And when there’s that much chaos, the creative part of my brain just shuts down.

So, this year I decided things had to change. I had to find a way to organise all the supplies by project to keep them all together and to be able to easily find what I needed depending on which holiday I was working on. I began to realise this method would work great for craft project – not just holiday cards!

So, what is my ‘secret’? I got my hands on some large plastic paper storage containers – they will hold 12×12″ paper and are deep enough to also hold stamp and die sets, embellishments, etc. These are the ones I bought but I’m sure you can find something local to you…

I also use smaller containers for embellishments. I have a stack of these in the cupboard in my craft studio so I keep embellishments or small things I’ve made together by theme or type to use on future projects. Any leftover pieces from the projects gets stored in these too, to be used in future years (though often I’ll skip a year for a holiday card so I don’t accidentally send something similar two years in a row!). These are really handy for all sorts of supplies. I even have a bunch of them in my drawers to store things like glue sticks for hot glue guns, clay jewellery pieces that are waiting for findings to be put on them, and, course, things like paint pens, water colour pencils, etc.
