The Suzette Stitch, sometimes called the Thicket Stitch, is the perfect stitch for making dishcloths, blankets or anything where you want some visual interest and some thickness but don’t want it to be overly complicated or a yarn eater. Video is below. Narration is in USA crochet terms but both USA and UK terms are provided in ‘subtitles’. A written explanation is below. Happy hooking!
PRO DESIGN TIP:
When first undertaking a project think about yarn colour vs stitch choice. If the yarn has a variegated, striped, flecked or otherwise ‘busy’ colourway, then let the colour do the talking and choose simpler, flatter, and/or plainer stitches (like the Suzette Stitch). If the yarn is plain, then you can let the stitch do the talking and use more complicated or textured stitches like puffs, bobbles, front post double crochet, overlay, etc.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- tc = treble crochet
